Our position on Net Zero

This is the first of three posts outlining the position of Reform UK Godalming and Ash branch on issues relevant to the May 7th local elections. It’s St. George’s Day today, which explains the choice of the graphic.
Waverley Borough Council is “determined to reach Net Zero by 2030” and has “made carbon reduction and Climate Change a key priority.” They seem ignorant of the fact that in most of the world, the net zero ideal is seriously running out of steam. India, China and the USA are never going even to try to meet it. Not to mention Russia and Saudi Arabia. The result of the UK trying to meet it has been some of the highest energy prices in the world, resulting in de-industrialization and the loss of large numbers of jobs.
Reform is the party of common sense. We recognize that – even if the scares about “climate emergency,” “biodiversity loss” and the like were supported by hard evidence – the costs to the people of trying to reach net zero would greatly exceed any benefits. That is why we are committed to scrapping Net Zero and the green energy subsidies that it has spawned.
